The Caetano Levante is a coach body built by Salvador Caetano on Volvo B9R chassis, exclusively for National Express in the United Kingdom. It was designed to comply with the Disability Discrimination Act 2005.
The Volvo B9R is a rear-engined coach chassis built by Volvo. It can be built with bodies up to 13 m (42 ft 8 in) long and a maximum gross weight of 19,000 kg (42,000 lb).
The B9R is equipped with a rear-mounted Volvo 9.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine under the floor, producing 380 bhp (283 kW; 385 PS) and torque of 1,700 N⋅m (1,254 lb⋅ft).
Volvo I-Shift 12-speed automated gear-changing system, or manual 6-speed transmission
Electronically controlled air suspension. Front and rear stabilisers.
Twin circuit system. Volvo disc brakes combined with EBS 5-controlled ABS/ASR functions and Electronic Stability Program (ESP).
Originally only available on the Volvo B12B chassis, the Levante enabled both able-bodied and wheelchair passengers to enter the vehicle via the front door, using a combination of a front-mounted lift and two single pedestal-mounted seats in place of the traditional double at the front nearside of the passenger area. It is used by most National Express contractors.
This model is similar to a Portuguese market model, Caetano Winner, which was presented in 2004.
